Welcome to Dr. Liang-Jie (LJ) Zhang's Homepage!

 

Just call me LJ. I am a Research Staff Member and the founding chair of Services Computing PIC (Professional Interest Community) at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. Currently I am part of the Business Informatics research team with a focus on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Services for Industry Solutions & Business Performance Management Services.

 

In the latest 14 years, as the lead researcher and poineer of Web services, e-commerce solutions and information technology, I initialized and led cutting edge projects in the field of Web Services, Business Process Integration and Collaboration for Extended Businesses, Business Grid Solutions, Web Services Hub Framework for B2B Integration, E-Commerce Solutions for Interactive Digital TV and Streaming Media, Internet Communications, Computational Intelligence, ATM Network Control, and Intelligent Information Appliances and Signal Processing.

 

I have numerous patents and about 80 published papers. I am the Chair of IEEE Computer Society's Technical Steering Committee (a.k.a. Technical Community) for Services Computing (TSC-SC), Vice Chair of Communications for IEEE Computer Society's Task Force on E-Commerce. I am the General Chair of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2004) and General Co-chair of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2004) and the 2004 IEEE Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC 2004). Currently, I am the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR), the first academic journal focusing on Web services.

 

Highlighted Accomplishements in My Career:

2003: Played Leadership Role in Forming Services Computing Discipline

2003: Proposed Web Services Collaboration Framework and its e-business solution stack (Extended Business Collaboration).

2002: Wrote the FIRST two articles on Grid Computing for IBM developerWorks. In these articles, Dr. Zhang proposed the concept of “Business Grid’ and “Grid Solution Sphere” solution framework for creating Grid solutions.

2002: Released the FIRST business requirements driven and services-oriented business process composition technology, Web Services Outsourcing Manager(WSOM), based on discovery and global service selection algorithm.

2001: Released the FIRST federated Web services discovery technology, Business Explorer for Web Services (BE4WS)

2001: I and my colleagues designed and developed the FIRST demonstration system of Web services and Business-to-Business Integration for IBM Dynamic e-Business (a.k.a. Web Services) launch event.

2000: Created the patented live data insertion system and technology for interactive digital TV.

1997-2000: Created IBM HotVideo Technology (Quoted by USA Today) and HotMedia Audio technology, which were the foundational components for HotMedia Product
