Freitag received his Ph.D. degree in Physics
& Astronomy in 2002 from the University
of Pennsylvania. Marcus Freitag holds a “Diplom”
in Physics from the University
of Tuebingen,
Germany
(1998), and a M.S. in Physics from the University
of Massachusetts (1996).
After postdoctoral work for Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc. he joined the
Research Division of IBM in 2004.
Dr.
Freitag has previously worked on scanning probe
microscopy and electronic transport in carbon nanotubes.
He is currently focusing on electro-optical experiments on the nanoscale. His interests include Schottky
barriers, ambipolar transistors, nanoscale electroluminescent devices, photodetectors, and advanced electronic devices.
Dr.
Freitag has published over 20 peer-reviewed
papers in journals such as Science, Physical Review Letters, Nature
Nanotechnology, Nano Letters, and Applied
Physics Letters. He has authored and co-authored several book chapters on
nanotube electronics and optoelectronics. He is
a member of the American Physical Society and the Material Research
Society, and is frequently invited to present at international
conferences, including keynote and plenary lectures. His work was chosen
by the Chemical & Engineering News as one of 10 Chemistry Highlights of
the year 2003 in Nanotech & Molecular Electronics.
