Dr. Pitkänen is a research scientist at HIIT. He holds a doctorate in information technology, a master's degree in software engineering, and a master's degree in laws. He has worked as a researcher and a teacher at the Helsinki University of Technology and at HIIT since 1993. From 1999 to 2001, and during 2003, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests include legal issues related to digital services, and information and communication technologies (ICT). Prior to academia he worked as a software engineer in several companies and practiced law.

Jukka Kemppinen  Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT), Helsinki University of Technology, University of Helsinki, and Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, P.O. Dr. Kemppinen is a professor of information law, a former judge for the Court of Appeals, an author (of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction), and a translator. He holds a doctorate degree in philosophy. Dr. Kemppinen has written over 1,000 articles in reviews, journals, magazines, and newspapers. His blog, http://kemppinen.blogspot.com (mostly in Finnish, occasionally in English), is very popular.
