Biographical sketches of authors

Amy W. Chow  IBM CIO Office, 294 Route 100, Somers, NY 10589 (amychow@us.ibm.com). Ms. Chow's experience has been focused on applying emerging technology to address strategic business issues. Initially a cofounder, she now manages the Technology Adoption Program team with the mission to drive cultural change in IBM to help the company embrace innovation in an open, collaborative manner. Prior to this position, she led the creation of the IBM w3 On Demand Workplace Framework, which developed the technology architecture and governing activities needed to transform the company's intranet into a portal, role-based workplace. Ms. Chow also has extensive experience in business consulting and is a certified IT strategy consultant, working with IBM clients in various industries, partnering to identify strategic moves in e-business during the Internet boom. She is passionate about exploring new technologies and the application development process as well as innovation management and collaboration capabilities for community-building, for which she has received an IBM Outstanding Innovation Award. Ms. Chow received an M.B.A. degree from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University and a B.A. degree in economics from Bucknell University, and is the lead inventor on multiple patents in text analytics.

Brian D. Goodman  IBM CIO Office, 150 Kettletown Road, Southbury, CT 06488 (bgoodman@us.ibm.com). Mr. Goodman is a senior software engineer and certified IT architect, leading an innovation team responsible for developing emerging technology that enriches collaboration and productivity. Some of his recent work involves creating social software and grassroots-collaboration environments for the enterprise. He was a cofounder and principal architect directing technical enabling for the IBM Technology Adoption Program (TAP). His expertise is in the area of collaboration, innovation management, and high-performance Web applications. He has authored more than 33 publications (books, chapters, reviews, articles, productions, conferences, and proceedings) and holds 37 patent filings worldwide. Mr. Goodman is a two-time recipient of the IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects. He earned a multidisciplinary B.A. degree in computer science, psychology, and graphic design from Hampshire College, where his thesis centered on human-computer interface design for early childhood applications.

John W. Rooney  IBM CIO Office, 294 Route 100, Somers, NY 10589 (rooney@us.ibm.com). Mr. Rooney is a senior manager in the IBM CIO office. His team is responsible for delivering programs and technology to support the innovation mission at IBM. During his 10 years at IBM, Mr. Rooney has been able to introduce many new collaborative tools to IBM employees including instant messaging, Weblogs, and wikis. He was previously responsible for the technical strategy for the IBM intranet portal and has managed a number of software development teams.

Christopher D. Wyble  IBM CIO Office, 294 Route 100, Somers, NY 10589 (cwyble@us.ibm.com). Mr. Wyble has a strong background in process and project management. As program manager for the Technology Adoption Program, he is responsible for program operations and contributing to the team's strategy and plans. Before joining the CIO team, he managed a multimillion dollar portfolio of projects for the IBM intellectual property and licensing function. His responsibilities included end-to-end project management planning and coordination of development and deployment resources. He enjoys finding ways to remove obstacles, enable innovation, and streamline business processes. Mr. Wyble earned an M.S. degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.S. degree in computer science from Lehigh University, and is a certified project management professional.
