Steve Mastrianni

Dr. Mastrianni is a senior software engineer currently writing autonomic and services software. He has a B.S. degree in business administration and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science. He joined IBM Research after running a software development and consulting company for a number of years where he specialized in operating systems development, device drivers, real-time applications, data acquisition, and computer 3D graphics. Dr. Mastrianni is the author of three programming books, numerous conference papers, and over 100 articles for industry trade publications. He has 20 issued patents.
David F. Bantz

Dr. Bantz was a research staff member from 1972 to 2005 after a short stint with a startup. He rejoined IBM in 2006 as a part-time employee. He graduated from Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1970 with an Eng.Sc.D. degree and taught there and at the University of Southern Maine as an adjunct professor for over 30 years. He has 29 issued patents. His technical interests have always been in personal computing applications and technology, and he is currently working on automated systems management.
Kirk A. Beaty

His research and interests include systems and network management, database management systems, storage-area-network storage systems, and Lotus Notes® scalability. He joined IBM in 1981 as a systems programmer and has been developing systems management software for over a decade at both the IBM Cambridge Scientific Center and the Watson Research Center. Mr. Beaty has a B.S. degree in mathematics and computer science from Manchester College, Indiana, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in software engineering from Harvard University.
Tom Chefalas

Mr. Chefalas is a Senior Technical Staff Member in services technologies. He received a B.S. degree in computer science in 1988 and an M.S. degree in computer science in 1992 from New York University. He joined IBM in 1987. Mr. Chefalas is currently working on desktop management, autonomic computing, and end-user services.
Srikant Jalan

Mr. Jalan received a B.S. degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1989. He joined IBM in 1994 and is currently developing systems management software for desktops, servers, distributed systems, and grid-based systems. Mr. Jalan's interests include desktop management, end-user services, and life-cycle management.
Gautam Kar

He has a Ph.D. degree in computer and information science from Ohio State University. He joined the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in 1983. From 1989 to 1993, he was the manager of the Distributed Applications Research Group at the IBM European Networking Center in Heidelberg, Germany. From 1994 to 1999, he was the senior manager of Network and Systems Management in the IBM Global Network Services Division. Dr. Kar's research interests include performance and availability management of distributed systems, and services.
Andrzej Kochut

Dong Jun Lan

Larry O'Connell

He has an M.B.A. degree from the Stern School of Business of New York University and undergraduate and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Manhattan College. He is a licensed professional engineer in New York State. Prior to joining IBM in 1998, Mr. O'Connell led the Lucent/Bell Lab Multimedia Communications team in introducing IP-based voice, video, and data collaboration products to the marketplace.
Anca Sailer

Dr. Sailer joined IBM in 2003 where she is currently a research staff member in the Systems and Network Management department. She received a Ph.D. degree in computer science from Pierre and Marie Curie University of Paris in 2000. She was a research member at the Networking Research Laboratory at Bell Labs, Lucent Technology from 2001 to 2003, where she specialized in internet services traffic engineering and monitoring. Dr. Sailer's interests include Web Services architecture, system monitoring, problem determination, and self-healing technologies.
Gang Wang

Dennis G. Shea

He began his career at IBM Boca Raton working on small systems, and his technical interests have revolved around connectivity, mobile solutions, and client management services. Dr. Shea's current interest is in the area of service sciences research and its application to solving customer problems.
