Biographical sketch of author

Andrew L. Schirmer IBM Software Group, 4 Technology Park Drive, Westford, MA 01886 (Andy_Schirmer@notesdev.ibm.com). Mr. Schirmer is a senior software designer and team leader for the User Experience Roadmap at Lotus. He earned a B.A. degree in history from Carleton College in 1972. He joined Lotus in 1987 and was instrumental in the development of several products as a senior software engineer. Mr. Schirmer has been a leader in product design for 13 years, working on projects in knowledge management, social networking, Web services, and office applications. He has filed over 30 patent applications for user experience and knowledge-management innovations. He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
