Windsor W. Hsu

Mr. Hsu received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and computer sciences and the M.S. degree in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1996, he has been with the Computer Science Department at the Almaden Research Center. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science Division of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include computer architecture and the performance analysis and modeling of computer systems. Mr. Hsu has been awarded the IBM Fellowship (19951998), the University of California Regents' Fellowship (19941995), the University of California Chancellor's Scholarship (19931994), and the University of California Regents' Scholarship (19911994).
Alan Jay Smith

Dr. Smith received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Stanford University. He was an NSF Graduate Fellow. He is currently a Professor in the Computer Science Division of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS), University of California, Berkeley, where he has been on the faculty since 1974. He was vice chairman of the EECS department from July 1982 to June 1984. His research interests include the analysis and modeling of computer systems and devices, computer architecture, and operating systems. Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the IEEE and of the ACM, and is a member of IFIP Working Group 7.3, the Computer Measurement Group, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Xi. He is on the Board of Directors (19932001) and was Chairman (19911993) of the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture (SIGARCH). He was Chairman (19831987) of the ACM Special Interest Group on Operating Systems (SIGOPS), was on the Board of Directors (19851989) of the ACM Special Interest Group on Measurement and Evaluation (SIGMETRICS), was an ACM National Lecturer (19851986), was an IEEE Distinguished Visitor (19861987), and was an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (TOCS) (19821993). He is a subject area editor of the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Microprocessors and Microsystems. He was program chairman for the SIGMETRICS '89/Performance '89 Conference, program cochair for the Second (1990), Sixth (1994), and Ninth (1997) Hot Chips Conferences, and has served on numerous program committees.
Honesty C. Young

Dr. Young received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the National Taiwan University and received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the Almaden Research Center as a research staff member in 1985. He has been involved in research and development projects in the area of parallel databases, database performance, PC-based server solutions, and storage subsystems. Dr. Young was previously on the technical staff at IBM Research headquarters. He is currently the senior manager of the Network Storage Infrastructure and Solutions Department in Almaden. Dr. Young has received two IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards.
