Radiation-induced transient failures, generally referred to as soft errors or single-event upsets, are the topic of this issue. The cover depicts radiation as lines originating inside or outside of chips containing the logic and memory circuits that can change state due to the radiation. Alpha-particles resulting from radioactive decay of contaminants in various materials are indicated as black arrows. Such radioactive processes can limit the reliability of computing systems.
