In recent years, IT services and IT-enabled services have become a significant part of IBM’s business. India is at the forefront of this massive shift, since many of the services are being delivered via the skilled and lower-cost labor pool in India. The range of services delivered from India includes infrastructure-based services such as server and network management, application development and management services, business process services, as well as high-end consulting services.
There are many technology needs for delivering these services at a high quality and at a low cost. These technologies range from distributed and high performance computing technologies for scalability and fault-tolerance, data management technologies for data mining and text analytics, programming technologies & software engineering techniques for developing reusable, SOA-based solutions, and algorithms and optimization techniques. Armed with experts in these areas, IRL has started a large research program in both Delhi and Bangalore to address a variety of services-related problems.
The IRL Delhi team is closely involved in the development of new technologies for the delivery of services from organizations like Daksh and for customers like Bharti. The IRL Bangalore team is engaged with developing innovative technologies for infrastructure-based services and for reusable asset based solution building services. With these efforts, we expect to be able to dramatically improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery from India.
