Best Paper Award at IPDPS 2009 Researchers from IRL's High Performance Computing group won the Best Paper Award at IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS) 2009. The publication titled "HPCC RandomAccess Benchmark for Next Generation Supercomputers", authored by Mr. Vikas Aggarwal, Dr. Yogish Sabharwal, Dr. Rahul Garg of IBM India Research Lab and Dr. Philip Heidelberger of IBM Watson Research Center was judged the best paper in the applications research track at the highly reputed symposium.
This publication describes the optimizations done by the team for the HPC Challenge Random Access benchmark that bagged IBM's Blue Gene/P Supercomputer at Argonne National Lab the HPC Challenge Class 1 award for this benchmark at Supercomputing 2008. Using optimization techniques combining Software routing and aggregation with load balancing on multi-cores, they posted a performance of 103 GUPs for this benchmark in 2008, bettering their own record of 35 GUPs that won them the same award for the previous three years (2005-2007) of the competition.
