International Workshop on Advanced Issues of
E-Commerce and Web-based Information
Systems (WECWIS'99) Santa Clara,
California, April 8-9, 1999
(Joint Workshop of the 3rd RTDB (Real-Time Databases) and 2nd DARE (Dependable & Real-Time E-C Systems)) In Cooperation with IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Real-Time Systems IBM Institute for Advanced Commerce.
The workshop proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society.
The pervasive connectivity of the Internet and the powerful architecture of WWW have created a tremendous opportunity for conducting business on Internet. The terms e-commerce and e-business have been used to describe those systems and technologies that make conducting business on Internet possible. The purpose of this workshop is to identify and to explore the technical issues and solutions for e-commerce. In particular, we are interested in the security and real-time properties of e-commerce and web-based information systems. To our opinion, these topics are one of the most challenging and the most critical for the success of future e-commerce systems. The WECWIS workshop is to be a forum for free exchange of ideas. Particularly welcome are reports on experimental work, experience with current standards and position papers addressing current and future needs of e-commerce systems.
Topics for submission include but are not limited to:
- Real-time Internet delivery technology
- Security issues for e-commerce
- Web-based information systems for e-commerce
- Real-time scheduling protocols for Internet activities
- Real-time Java technology
- Design of Internet applications
- QoS support in e-commerce systems
- Data mining techniques for e-commerce systems and WIS
- E-commerce based business models and architectures
- Integration of e-commerce servers with legacy systems
Authors are invited to submit regular papers, reports on work in progress, position papers, as well as proposals for panel discussions. Regular paper submissions should be limited to 10 pages double-spaced, including figures. The title page should include a maximum 150-word abstract, five keywords, full mailing address, e-mail address, phone numbers, and a designated contact author. Four hard copies or an electronic version (postscript file) of the manuscript should be submitted by November 15, 1998 to:

Work-In-Progress Session
Contributions to a special Work-In-Progress (WIP) session are sought. WECWIS'99 WIP will be devoted to the presentation of new and on-going projects in web-based systems and applications. The prime purpose of this session is to provide researchers an opportunity to discuss their evolving ideas and gather feedback thereon from the community at large. The WIP session will be held on Thursday, April 8, 1999, and will consist of short presentations of all accepted submissions. Also, accepted submissions will be included in the proceedings which will be published by the IEEE-CS. Submissions to WIP should describe original on-going work and should be limited to 3-4 pages.
Please send all WIP submissions via E-mail to Workshop Co-Chair:
The deadline for submissions is March 10. 1999.
