Game 5, black
29...Qg6
Commentary for black move 29:
MAURICE ASHLEY: The only worry that black could have is that
bishop again on g2. And certainly he is going to want to
control --
DB MOVE: 30...Qg6.
MAURICE ASHLEY: It has offered to exchange queens but in an
unusual manner. It has agreed to accept doubled pawns by
moving to g6. In its program, it's been told, and we've seen
it time and time again, that doubled pawns are bad, no more
doubled pawns, and unless there's a reason, a really good
reason, avoid doubled pawns. And here Deep Blue is saying,
"Don't worry, programmers, I've got it all worked out."
(Audience laughter.)
YASSER SEIRAWAN: The programmers are worried.
MAURICE ASHLEY: They must be a little concerned after that last
move offering the exchange of queens and the weak pawn and
then
the rook comes into e7 again with the effect.
SUSAN POLGAR: With less effect, because less pawns remain
on the
seventh rank. So that's the idea, I guess.
