Game 4, black
31...Rf7
Commentary for black move 31:
MIKE VALVO: And Garry responds right away, Rf7.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: And Garry had anticipated this move.
(Audience
laughter.) Rf7-f7, looking to double the rooks on the newly
created f-file.
MIKE VALVO: This is interesting. If you were a human, you might
not play fxe3, but it might be a good idea to take it right
away because they're going to think and you can take advantage
of that time.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: First of all, I recover my composure after the
trade of queens, and I think Deep Blue is right back in the
game. Again, in an ending this is going to be very hard for
white to win -- excuse me, for Kasparov to win. He is a pawn
down. He has some structural weaknesses on the king-side. For
him to win back a pawn would imply a couple of trades, and it
just seems to me that there's too little -- there's too few
pieces on the board for Garry really to drive an advantage home
here.
Well, we have Maurice back.
MAURICE ASHLEY: And we'll excuse International Master Mike
Valvo.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: Welcome back to the stage.
MAURICE ASHLEY: He's been doing a good job.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: And introducing IM Maurice Ashley to rejoin
us.
MAURICE ASHLEY: And we'll also excuse Angelina Belaskaya,
wonderful job, U.S. women's chess champion.
MAURICE ASHLEY: I've been in the press room. I've been taking a
poll. I know you like polls. I took a poll, of some pretty
heavy-duty people.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: Big timers?
MAURICE ASHLEY: Six Grandmasters, U.S. champions among
them, a
world champion, women's world champion among them.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: Susan.
MAURICE ASHLEY: Yeah. And they had a consensus, more or
less,
about this position. Two moves have been made since I was last
there. Just before the exchange of queens. Now, we had a
British Grandmaster, Danny King from England. His feeling was
black was good, black had a solid position. Didn't want to say
winning, but good. Woman's world champion Susan Polgar, same
opinion. Down a pawn, but her -- she even felt this game looks
like it should be a draw, in her opinion. Patrick Wolff,
former U.S. champion --
