Game 3, white
23.Bd2
Commentary for white move 23:
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: Deep Blue does move for some --
trying to
mess things up.
MIKE VALVO: Well, he's attacking knight, and he's attacking the
pawn. 23 Bd2
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: Bd2 was played.
MIKE VALVO: Is that pawn available?
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: I don't think so. It is available, but I
don't think so. After Qxa3 and Rb7 it looks very black for
black now. (Audience laughter.)
MIKE VALVO: Very black for black?
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: Yeah. I don't think this pawn is the
target here.
MIKE VALVO: What does Fritz think? Fritz thinks that black is
down almost a pawn.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Ahead.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Fritz thinks it's great for Fritz.
MIKE VALVO: What would you do with this position for black, if
you had it?
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: If I had it, what would I think, or what
would I do? (Audience laughter.)
MIKE VALVO: What would you do.
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: I'm not allowed to say what I think, so
probably Rb8.
MIKE VALVO: Rb8?
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: Yeah.
MIKE VALVO: Well, Roman you're a well-known expert at beating
computers.
ROMAN DZINDZIHASHVILI: Yeah. By the way, the position that --
pawn structure that was created against Deep Blue in this game,
Yasser said it was played in Aegon tournament by Koshasvili
against MChess Pro. But I played this against very many
programs better than MChess Pro, and they had problems also
with this pawn structure. But later on, when I spoke to the
programmers, what kind of problems computers had, very next
game, playing exact same position I had much more
difficulties. So I don't think this problem, if there is a
problem for computer to play this position, I don't think it's
going to remain for much longer.
