Game 1, black
9...Bh5
Commentary for black move 9:
Mr. SEIRAWAN: Sort of controlling the g5 square. Let try to
explain the strategy a little bit more. We have seen the move
d2-d3. Garry had not made a commitment with the center pawns,
leaving it an open question of whether or not he was going to
play e2-e4 or c2-c4. After d2-d3 he played -- Deep Blue played
Bd6. I love that move. It's a lovely, ideal square for this
dark squared bishop, because the problem with the d6 square,
the d6 bishop looks at the squares a3 and b4 as well as towards
the king-side, f4, g3, h2. So the beneficiary on d6 is very
well placed. Then came the move Nbd2, castles, so Deep Blue in
its -- and its computer programmers can be very happy that the
computer program has a nice, safe king on the king-side. Then
came the /PHAO*UFT h2-h3.
