Brief Biography
Edwin Pednault joined IBM in January, 1996, as a Research Staff Member
in the Data Analytics Research Group. He is currently working on automated
probabilistic modeling techniques for data mining applications. Previously,
he was with AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he worked on probabilistic
modeling for retail sales forecasting, predicting failures in long-distance
communication lines, handwriting recognition, and surface reconstruction
in computer vision. In his spare time, he collaborates with his wife,
Marla, on the mathematical analysis and prediction of nucleic acid atomic
structure. Ed received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford
University for his thesis on the mathematical foundations of automatic
planning. He also holds a master's degree in computer science from Stanford
and a bachelor's in electrical engineering from McGill University.
